About

smolplants.com is a small library of plant care guides, written for plants in pots under six inches.

Why only small plants

Almost all houseplant advice is written for mature plants in large pots. A three-inch pot behaves differently: it holds a fraction of the soil, dries out in days, heats up fast on a windowsill, and gives you very little margin for error. The plants sold as "smol" — desk cacti, tiny ferns, air plants, succulent trios — are the ones most often bought on impulse and most often dead within two months. That is the gap this site covers.

How it is funded

There is no shop here and nothing is for sale. The site is funded by affiliate commissions from retailers we link to when a specific product genuinely matters — soil, pots, and the plants themselves. You pay the same price either way. See the affiliate disclosure for the exact mechanics.

No brand pays for a recommendation, and no retailer has editorial input. Where a plant is a poor choice for most people, it is listed as a poor choice.

How the advice is written

Each guide covers light, water, soil and pot, then a section on what commonly goes wrong — because that is the section people actually need when a plant is dying. Claims about pet toxicity follow the ASPCA's toxic and non-toxic plant listings; anything not on those lists is described as unverified rather than assumed safe.
